The Buddy Programme connects new and experienced volunteers to share practical guidance, local insights, real-world experience about working with the United Nations. It’s a simple way to build connections that matter.

About the programme

Why Join? It’s more than just a friendly chat.

New Volunteers: gain a friend and guide, someone to:

·        Introduce you to the local culture and workplace norms

·        Provide practical tips – from settling-in to finding local resources

·        Help build your professional network from the start

Buddies (Serving UN Volunteers), share what you know and grow your skills by:

·        Getting new perspectives while guiding newcomers

·        Practicing leadership and mentoring

·        Earning recognition through certificates and badges

How It Works – Simple, Flexible, Volunteer-Led

For New Volunteers:

  • Accept the buddy invite after you accept your assignment on UVP
  • Find a buddy by location, Host Entity, language, or interests
  • Reach out and set up your first chat!

For Buddies (Serving UN Volunteers):

  • Sign up on eCampus after 6+ months of service.
  • Respond when someone connects with you
  • Agree on your own rhythm; weekly for the first month.
  • Share tips, answer questions, and help them settle in
