The UN Buddy First Aid Course (UNBFAC) aims to reduce incidents of preventable in-service death and disability of United Nations personnel.

You will be aware of the main concepts, issues and best practices related to information security across seven areas.

You will learn how to uphold your human rights responsibilities in your daily work and to take appropriate action for human rights protection within your function.

You will be able to understand the barriers faced by persons with disabilities; describe some steps to support their needs wherever needed; and identify some actions to make your workplace accessible and inclusive for all.

You will be able to describe how your volunteer assignment links to sustainable development; identify the different ways in which people volunteer worldwide; and understand how volunteering contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.

This course is designed to raise your awareness of the UN’s zero tolerance approach when it comes to misconduct.

You will be able to describe the UN security structure; apply practical techniques to manage risks and deal with difficult circumstances; identify actions to react appropriately in the event of actual danger, threat, or injury; and comprehend your psychological reaction to security incidents and know where to obtain help.

The Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) e-learning course is mandatory for all UN personnel including UN volunteers.

You will be able to describe the significance of gender as a crosscutting issue in the context of volunteerism; comprehend the role of gender in the broader framework of the development agenda 203; Explore the implications of gender equality outlined in SDG5 within the context of volunteerism; and recognize the interconnections between gender issues and volunteerism for effective and inclusive development.

After this mandatory course, you will be able to  understand the policy on harassment, sexual harassment, and abuse of authority; use some tips to enable a harmonious working environment free from intimidation, hostility, offence and any form of harassment and retaliation;  understand what constitutes harassment and abuse of authority and their consequences in the workplace; and identify the procedures for responding to workplace harassment and abuse of authority.

You will be able to describe why and how the UN is reducing its environmental footprint; and identify ways in which you can participate by making changes in your activities.

You will be able to use some tips on how to adapt todifferent organizational cultures and how to work in cross-cultural teams; describe how to communicate with colleagues from all over the globe and from different cultures.

You will be able to identify the obligations outlined in the Charter of the United Nations; describe the responsibilities established by the UN Staff Regulations and Rules; recognize the impact of other administrative issuances on your role and responsibilities.
